Identity as Conflict

This project is based on Camp by Childish Gambino, exploring identity, isolation, and the experience of not belonging to any one group. The album reflects a condition of existing between different cultural and social expectations, where misunderstanding and rejection become part of self-formation. The design centers on conflict, treating identity not as something fixed, but as something continuously shaped through tension. Through fragmentation, misalignment, and contrast, the visual system expresses the pull between the collective and the self, and between being defined by others and defining oneself.

As a central visual metaphor, I use the tiger to represent the individual who cannot be assimilated. In contrast to the herd, the tiger exists outside of collective structures, neither belonging nor conforming. This reflects the album’s theme of being caught between identities and never fully accepted. The uniqueness of each tiger’s pattern is translated into a visual language that resists uniformity and standardization, reinforcing the idea of identity formed through isolation and conflict.
